What is the HDHMR board?/ All about HDHMR boards.

1. What is the HDHMR board?

HDHMR stands for high-density high moisture resistance board. These boards are manufactured by pressing the hardwood waste & fiber chips together to form a homogeneous board.

The water resistance properties of these boards are as per ISI standards. A special glue is used while manufacturing these types of boards.

HDHMR boards have uniform density gradients & firmly pressed compact cores.

When compared to plywood & other boards, the density of these boards is much better due to high compaction. The HDHMR board has a density of 850kg./m³.

2. What are the advantages & disadvantages of the HDHMR board?

Advantages:

1. Easy workability.

2. The surface of these boards is smooth without any undulations. This helps for better lamination over the surface.

3. The screw-holding capability of these boards is firm & better than plywood.

4. They have termite & borer resistant qualities.

5. HDHMR boards have good moisture resistance properties.

6. This is an eco-friendly product.

7. They have good fire retardant properties.

8. Router friendly to engrave the required designs.

9. Absorbs less paint due to high compaction & smooth surface.

Disadvantages:

1. Slightly heavier due to higher density, which adds more weight to the end-use items.

2.  They are not waterproof products, although they have water-resistant abilities.

3. If these boards are used in seepage or water leakage areas, they may bend or lose their shape after a certain period of time.

3. What are the standard dimensions of HDHMR boards?

Length 👉  8 feet.

Breadth 👉 4 feet

Thickness 👉  3mm., 6mm., 8mm., 12mm., 16mm., 18mm, 25mm.

4. What are the different types of HDHMR boards?

HDHMR boards are basically available in two types. They are,

1. Plain HDHMR: They are plain boards primarily available in greenish shades. The other colors are purple, grey, pink, etc.

2. Pre-laminated HDHMR: They come with surface laminations of different finishes & designs.

5. What is the cost of HDHMR boards?

The cost of the HDHMR board depends upon its thickness, brand, & type of board selected. Depending upon these factors the price ranges from INR 30/- to INR 100/- per sq ft.

The boards of 16mm. or 18mm. thickness, which is widely used and is available between INR 80/- to INR 90/- per sq ft.

6. Where we can use HDHMR boards?

HDHMR boards can be used in interior items like cabinets, wardrobes, furniture, cupboard shutters, etc.

Due to their water-resistant properties, they are better replacements for plywood in water-prone areas. HDHMR boards are the preferred choice in the kitchen & all other spaces exposed to high moisture content.
The other applications are in making door shutters, packaging industries, partition boards, etc.
