How to find true length in a chain surveying?/ Error correction in chain surveying.

Let us solve an example to understand the concept of calculating the true length in a chain surveying.

Eg:

The length of the survey line measured with a 20m. chain was 967m. If the chain was 2cm. too long, calculate the true length of the line.

Calculation:

Designated length of the chain = L = 20m.

An actual length of the chain = L1

 = [designated length + extra length]

 = [20m. + 0.02m.]

L1 = 20.02m.

Measured distance of a line = D1 = 967m.

Now,

The true length of the survey line

D = [ D1 × ( L1 ÷ L )]

   = [  967m. × ( 20.02m. ÷ 20m. )]

    = 967.967m.
