Eg:
The length of the survey line measured with a 30m. chain was recorded as 767m. If the true length of the line is 770m., calculate the actual length of the chain.
Calculation:
D = actual length of the line = 770m.
D1 = measured length of the line = 767m.
L = designated length of the chain = 30m.
The actual length of the chain = L1 =?
Now,
D = [ D1 × ( L1 ÷ L )]
770m. = [767m. × ( L1 ÷ 30m. )]
770m. = [25.56667 × L1]
Therefore,
The true length of the chain
L1 = [ 770m. ÷ 25.56667]
L1 = 30.117m.
