The thickness of the MS sheet = 3mm.= 0.00984 ft.
Size of MS angle = 30 × 30 × 5mm.
Calculation:
1. MS sheet:
Weight of MS sheet
= [volume × density]
As you know, the density of steel
= 7850kg/cum.= 222.287 kg./ cu ft.
( 1cum = 35.3147 cu ft.)
Volume = [ length × breadth × thickness]
= [ 3 ft. × 2 ft. × 0.00984 ft.]
= 0.05904 cu ft.
Weight of MS sheet
= [volume × density]
= [ 0.05904 cu ft. × 222.287 kg./cu ft.]
= 13.12 kg.
Note: Before calculation, you have to convert all dimensions into a similar unit.
2. MS angle:
Let us calculate the area of the MS angle in two parts as given below.
Area A1 ( red-colored)
A1 = [depth (h) × thickness (t) ]
= [50mm × 5mm.]
Converting it into meters,
= [ 0.05m × 0.005m.]
A1 = 0.00025sq.m.
The area A2 ( blue colored )
A2 = [{width - thickness ( t )} × thickness]
= [ { w - t } × t]
= [{50mm - 5mm} × 5mm.]
= [45mm. × 5mm.]
Converting them into meters,
=[ 0.045m × 0.005m ]
A2 = 0.000225 sq.m.
Total sectional area
A = area A1 + area A2
=0.00025 + 0.000225
= 0.000475 sq.m.
Now, the volume of the MS angle
= Area (A) × Length (L)
= 0.000475sq.m. × 1m.
= 0.000475 cubic meter.
Weight of the MS angle
= [volume × density]
= [0.000475 cu.m. × 7850 kg/cu.m.]
Here, the density of steel is taken as 7850kg/cu.m. for calculation purposes.
= 3.728kg.
The weight of MS angle / RMT = 3.728 kg.
The total length of MS angle required for the plate
= [(2nos.× length of plate) + 4nos. × {width of the plate - (2 × angle thickness.)}]
= [(2nos.× 3 ft.) + 4nos. × {2 ft. - (2 × 0.0164 ft.)}]
(Angle thickness = 5mm = 0.0164 ft.)
= [6 ft. + ( 4nos. × 1.967 ft.)]
= 13.868 ft.
Now, the total weight of the MS angle
= [total length in ft. × wt./ft.]
= [ 13.868 ft. × 1.136kg/ft.]
= 15.75 kg.
The weight of the centering plate
= [wt. of MS sheet + wt. of MS angle]
= [13.12 kg. +15.75kg.]
= 28.87 kg.
