Let us calculate the cost of a one-way slab as shown below.
Let us redraw the above drawing with dimensions for the calculation purpose as below.
Given data:
Dimension of the slab
Lx = 6000mm = 6m.
Ly = 2500mm. = 2.5m.
Thickness = 150mm. = 0.15m.
Main bar = 10mm@ 150 c/c
Distribution bar = 8mm @ 150 c/c
Top extra bar = 8mm @ 150 c/c
Clear cover of slab = 25mm.
A. Material cost:
1. Material cost of concrete:
The volume of the RCC slab
= [Length × Breadth × Thickness]
= [ 6m. ×2.5m. × 0.15m.]
= 2.25 cum.
Let us provide M20-grade concrete for slab casting.
The material cost of M20 grade concrete = INR 6065.42/- per CUM.
The M20 cost is picked from our article 👇
💁 ° What will be the cost of M20 grade concrete?
The material cost of slab concrete
= [vol. of the slab in CUM × cost of concrete/ CUM]
= [ 2.5 cum. × 6,065.42/- ]
= INR 15,163.55/-
2. Material cost of steel:
The total weight of the rebars in the slab = 167.50 kgs.
The steel weight is picked from our article 👇
💁 ° Bar bending schedule (BBS) of the one-way slab.
So, the material cost of reinforcement bars
= [wt. of rebars × cost of rebar/ kg.]
= [ 167.50 kg × 60/- ]
= INR 10,050/-
B. Labor cost:
1. The labor cost of concreting:
The cost of concreting ranges from INR 60/- to INR 90/- per sq m. of the slab.
Let us take the average rate = INR 75/- per sq m.
The area of the slab
= [length × breadth]
= [ 6m. ×2.5m.]
= 15 sq m.
The cost of concreting
= [ slab area × labor cost/sq m.]
= [ 15 sq m. × 75/-]
= INR 1125/-
2. Shuttering cost:
The cost of slab shuttering inclusive of formwork material is between INR 600/- to 1000/- per sq m.
Let us consider the average rate = INR 800/- per sq m.
The cost of shuttering
= [ slab area × shuttering cost/sq m.]
= [ 15 sq m. × 800/-]
= INR 12,000/-
3. Bar bending cost:
The cost of bar bending & placing ranges from INR 55/- to INR 85/- per sq m. of the slab.
Let us take the average rate = INR 70/- per sq m.
The cost of bar bending
= [ slab area × bar bending cost/sq m.]
= [ 15 sq m. × 70/-]
= INR 1,050/-
The total labor cost for a one-way slab
= The cost of [ concreting + shuttering + bar bending]
= [1,125/- + 12,000/- + 1,050/-]
= INR 14,175/-
Now, let us find out the total cost of the one-way slab in the table format.

Note:
1. This article is to understand the cost calculation procedure of the RCC slab. In no way, the cost will be similar to the slab of all sizes.
2. The cost of the RCC slab varies depending upon their size, location, concrete grade, %ge of reinforcement, etc.
3. If the slab work is handed over to the contractor with material, you have to add 12% extra to the total cost as shown in the above table.
4. The cost of the beam is not included in the calculation procedure.
The cost of a one-way slab per sq m.
= [ Total cost ÷ slab area in sq m.]
= [44,675.18/- ÷ 15 ]
= INR 2978.35/- per sq m.
The cost of a one-way slab per sq ft.
= [ cost per sq m. ÷ 10.764]
= [ 2978.35/- ÷ 10.764]
= INR 276.70/- per sq ft.
