Let us find out the volume of water that can be stored in an oval water tanker as shown below.
Let us consider the dimension of the oval water tanker as shown in the below-given drawing.
Given data:
Length of the water tanker = L = 3200mm.=3.20m.
Shorter span (minor axis) of the oval section = a = 1200mm. = 1.20m.
Longer span ( major axis) of the oval section = b = 1720mm. = 1.72m.
I have redrawn the water tanker section for your better understanding as follows.
Now, the volume of the water tanker is calculated by the formula
V = [π × ( a ÷ 2) × ( b ÷ 2) × L]
= [π × ( 1.2m ÷ 2) × ( 1.72m. ÷ 2) × 3.20m. ]
= [3.142 × 0.6m. × 0.86m. × 3.20m. ]
= 5.188 cum.
As you know, 1 cum = 1000 liter
So, the capacity of a water tanker
= [5.188 cum × 1000]
= 5188 liters.
As water cannot be filled to its fullest capacity,
The volume of the water tanker is mentioned as 5000 liters.
