Kota is a district located in the Rajasthan state of India. These stones are largely mined in the Kota district & hence called by that name.
Kota stone is a natural material primarily made of fine-grained limestones. They come under sedimentary rocks having calcium carbonate, silica, & magnesium oxide, in their chemical composition.
Kota stones are cut into slabs of 1 to 2 inches thick of the rough cut dimensions. The stones are transported from quarries to the factories where they are finally shaped as per the required dimension & polished.
2. What are the advantages & disadvantages of Kota stone flooring?
Advantages:
1. They have good wear-resistant properties.
2. They are hard & durable.
3. Kota stones are imperious by nature.
4. Made of natural material. So they do not contain any toxic chemicals.
5. Can be cut into any required sizes by placing orders to the supplier.
6. They are water-resistant & are suitable to use in all types of climatic conditions.
7. Kota stones are non-slippery, which makes them perfect for watery & moist areas.

Disadvantages:
1. Kota stone reacts in the presence of stronger acids & alkalies. They cannot be used in chemical factories & any such acidic areas. They easily get stained if acid or alkaline materials fall over them.
2. After polishing, the surface won't be that shiny & lustrous as compared to granite & marble.
3. They are flaky in nature.
4. If you drag furniture or objects having a sharp base edge over the flooring, it may create scratches over them.
5. Kota stones cannot be cut into larger dimensions like granite stones. This is due to the brittle nature of limestones. The largest available size is 8 ft.× 2.25 ft.
6. Kota stone does not give royal look to the building if used in the interior flooring.
7. Darker shades of the stone give a smaller & dull look to the interior.

The most widely used colors are natural blue & light brown.

The top surface is polished to have a uniform surface.
4. Mirror finished:
The top surface of the Kota stone is fine polished & waxed to achieve a mirror finish.
5. Calibrated:
The Kota stones are made having a corrugated-like appearance by grooving with machines.
