Now, let us calculate the interior painting cost of one room of a building as shown below.
I have shown the calculation procedure of the painting area of the above-given room in the article,
The total painting area of the room = 794.5 sqft.
The materials required for painting a room are as follows.
1. Wall putty. 2. Wall primer, & 3. Paint.
Now, let us calculate the painting cost of a room by using all these materials from the Asian paint company.
Item |
Rate in INR |

Area covered in sqft. |
No. of coats. |
Putty |
22/- |

Primer |

Paint |

Note: The coverage area & rate is according to the company specification.
1. Wall putty
Cost = [( 794.5 sqft. ÷ 11 sqft. ) × Rs 22/kg.]
= [72.22 × Rs 22/kg.]
= Rs 1589/-
2. Wall primer
Cost = [( 794.5 sqft. ÷ 225 sqft. ) × Rs 145/litre.]
= [3.53 × Rs 145/litre.]
= Rs 512/-
3. Tractor emulsion paint
= [6.11 × Rs 125/litre.]
= Rs 764/-
Total material cost
= Rs 1589/- + Rs 512/- + Rs 764/-
= Rs 2865/-
B. Labour cost
= [total painting area × labor rate/sqft.]
= 794.5 sqft. × Rs 10/sqft.
=Rs 7945/-
Note: The labor rate includes the cost of sandpaper, roller, painting brush, etc. as needed to finish the work.

The total painting cost of the room
= Material cost + labour cost.
= Rs 2865/- + Rs 7945/-
= INR 10,810/-
Painting cost/ sqft.
= [total painting cost ÷ total painting area]
=[ 10,810 ÷ 794.5]
= INR 13.61/sqft.
Putting these values in the table format
