How to calculate the concrete volume of a retaining wall?/ Estimation of retaining wall.

Let us calculate the concrete volume of a retaining wall as shown in the drawing.

Given data:

Stem:

Height of stem = h = 5m.

Top width of stem = w1= 0.25m.

Bottom width of stem = w2 = 0.50m.

Length of stem = L = 7m.

Base slab:

Width of base slab = W = 4m.

The thickness of base slab = T = 0.4m.

Length of base slab = L = 7m.

Calculation:

The concrete volume of the base slab

  = [L × W × T]

  = [Length × width × thickness]

  =[7m. × 4m. × 0.4m.]

  = 11.2 cum.

The concrete volume of the stem

  = [L × {( w1 + w2 ) ÷ 2} × h]

  = [7m. × {( 0.25m. + 0.5m. ) ÷ 2} × 5m.]

  = [7m. × {0.75m ÷ 2} × 5m.]

  = [7m. × 0.375m. × 5m.]

  = 13.125 cum.

Now, the total concrete volume of the retaining wall

= [Concrete vol. of the base slab + concrete vol. of the stem.]

= [11.2 cum. + 13.125 cum.]

= 24.325 cum.
