Different types of kitchen sinks./Classification of kitchen sink used in building construction.

Kitchen sinks can be broadly categorized under 4 main sections.

They are,

A.  Kitchen sink based on the materials used.

B.  Kitchen sink based on the shape.

C.  Kitchen sink based on the models, design, and purpose.

D.  Kitchen sink based on its position.

Now we will observe the different types of kitchen sinks, that come under each of these categories.

A.  Kitchen sink based on the materials:

1.  Stainless steel kitchen sink:

Stainless steel kitchen sink.

Stainless steel kitchen sink stands in the no.1 position when compared to all other types of sinks of different materials, due to its added advantages. If you are giving more weightage to the work rather than the aesthetic look, then stainless steel sink is made for you.

The only disadvantage is, that it makes the clinking sound of the utensils while washing them, as it is made of a metal body.

2. Composite kitchen sink :

Composite kitchen sink.

They are made of crushed quartz material mixed with granite or similar stone powder blended with resins and chemicals. They are manufactured having scratch-proof, heat-resistant, and stain-proof qualities, to fit well as a kitchen sink material.

They are stylish and durable, but they add more money to your home budget.

3. Copper kitchen sink :

Copper kitchen sink.

Copper sinks provide a  traditional, rural-type look to your platform. They are sturdy, giving a heavier appearance to your kitchen.

Copper is known to have anti-bacterial properties. Copper metal has the tendency to react with acids.

4. Ceramic kitchen sink :

Ceramic kitchen sink.

The ceramic sink is made of a fire clay material by treating it under high temperatures. This type of sink is ok for dentists (to match the color of the teeth😃), doctors, or any such working professionals, where the washing of any tools is lighter in weight.
This type of sink is not good for washing heavier utensils when compared to metal sinks.

5. Porcelain kitchen sink:

Porcelain kitchen sink.

Porcelain is also a type of fire clay material. Usually, kaolin clay is used in the manufacturing of kitchen sinks. The tile cladding is done to the inner area of the sink that matches the one, that is fixed over the kitchen platform.

The disadvantage is, that they are breakable or they can develop cracks if the steel utensil hammers them.

6. Cast iron kitchen sink :

Cast iron kitchen sink.

Here, the cast iron is enameled to give the pleasant look having different color shades. They are heavier and thicker when compared to the SS sink. They are usually enameled with a porcelain material that has a tendency to chip if used roughly.

7. Granite kitchen sink:

Granite kitchen sink.

Granite is the preferred stone in the construction field, as they are harder, can be polished with a smooth surface, and can be cut and placed to provide you the required dimension.

The granite slab of the same surface design is used for both the platform top and the sink. The sink of the required dimension which you prefer can be cut and molded with a royal finishing look.

8. Marble kitchen sink:

Marble kitchen sink.

Marble stone comes in the lower price range when compared to granite slabs of the same size and thickness. The fixing procedure is similar to the granite, but marble is used when lighter color shades are chosen to match the kitchen coloring.
Marble sink comes at a lower budget cost when compared to granite type.

9. FRP kitchen sink:

FRP kitchen sink.

They are reinforced plastic materials, that are unbreakable and lighter in weight. FRP sink comes in a variety of colors and shapes to match the platform colors of your choice.

10. Solid surface kitchen sink:

Solid surface kitchen sink.

The solid surface sink is made of acrylic resins with fillers and added colors. They are seamless sinks coming in different design patterns.

Triple bowl kitchen sink.

In triple bowl type, the center bowl can be used as a basin to wash your hand. You can use a triple bowl sink over a kitchen platform with a wider surface area.

In this type of sink, you can clean utensils of different sizes conveniently by bifurcating them.
